Winter Call

“Take heed to enjoy your life
while your young”
Their warnings uttered
From frail lips
Weathered by winters
Too numerous past
That golden age of life
When everything was new
And optimism thrived
When they were invincible
With a spouse and kids
The American dream in tow
Before the empty house
Before being widowed
Before the fall
But after stepping into
The longest
Winter of all
