Kevin Max’s newest project, BROKEN TEMPLES, will officially be released on March 10. I’ll be counting down the remaining days to the release of the album on this page with a post each day exploring and celebrating, in no particular order, some of his prior creative ventures.

“21st Century Darlings” was the second track on Max’s 2004 release BETWEEN THE FENCE AND THE UNIVERSE and it is included in this countdown for two reasons. The first is that, when juxtaposed against “When He Returns” (previously featured on this countdown), it becomes clear that Max has an amazing stylistic range and that he has the ability to hit the mark regardless of what kind of performance the song calls for. Second, “21st Century Darlings,” is simply one of the most impressive rock songs I’ve ever heard. The fierce riff delivered by guitarist and collaborator Erick Cole was matched expertly by an intense passion in Max’s voice that is entirely appropriate for the dark, apocalyptic warning delivered in the lyrics.
