Kevin Max’s newest project, BROKEN TEMPLES, will officially be released on March 10. I’ll be counting down the remaining days to the release of the album on this page with a post each day exploring and celebrating some of his prior creative ventures.
There has been no lack of critical acclaim for the 1995 dcTalk album JESUS FREAK. Grammy Award winner for Best Rock Gospel Album, JESUS FREAK reached No.16 on the Billboard 200, was certified gold within 30 days of its release, and eventually went on to be certified double platinum. There are multiple worthy candidates on the album from which to select as possible favorites, but, the one I’ve chosen to feature here is carried by the strength of Max’s performance in the second verse and in the latter half of the track as the intensity of the song builds. Within the vocal chemistry of dcTalk, TobyMac and current Newsboys lead singer Michael Tait more than amply fulfilled their roles in providing the rap and soul elements, but, clearly, it was Max’s voice that allowed the music of dcTalk to sore to new heights in terms of artistry and a sound that nobody else had then or has now.
